“It is not easy to be a foster parent, but your help has made a huge difference in [the lives of] these children.”
– Note by a member of the public to foster parents

Singapore celebrated an inaugural Foster Care Week from 5th to 11th September 2016, marking 60 years of fostering in Singapore! As part of the celebration, Kiss92FM and other radio channels helped to raise awareness of the fostering roadshows that were held at Jurong Point, Tampines One, Toa Payoh Hub Atrium and Seletar Mall.

Foster Connections@MCYC took charge of the roadshow at Seletar Mall, where we had an exhibition showcasing the positive impact of fostering. Foster parents expressed appreciation for their foster children through notes of encouragement. Likewise, foster children conveyed their gratitude by drawing how their foster families made them happy. Foster Connections@MCYC ended the Foster Care Week on a positive note with 86 members of the public indicating their interest to be foster parents.

In his opening speech at the Committee of Supply 2016 in April, Minister for Social and Family Development Mr Tan Chuan-Jin encouraged more families to consider fostering, as it is a way of providing a family life for children below the age of 18 who are in need.

Children in the Fostering Scheme cannot live with their own families because of various reasons, including abuse, abandonment and neglect. Foster families offer their help by providing them with food, shelter, clothing, care and love. Fostering aims to help these children develop well in a safe and nurturing home environment.

Every child deserves a loving home. We hope you could join us on board as a foster parent!
